Independent full-service agency Equality Media + Marketing has been named as AFR's Best Place to Work in the Media and Marketing category.
Published annually by The Australian Financial Review (AFR) and BOSS Magazine, the awards are based on an assessment process managed by leading behavioural science consultancy Inventium, including a written submission and a staff survey examining policies, practices and programs that help businesses support their team.
Equality Media + Marketing won for as its four-day week initiative called Equality Time, which resulted in a 68% reduction in time spent in meetings and an increase of 11% in active tasks. This same initiative won AdNews' Employer of the Year (Headcount under 75) award for 2022.

Half Dome was recognised as third for its innovative workplace practices related to happiness, flexibility, learning and wellbeing.
Judges were impressed that 95% of employees recommending Half Dome as a great place to work, and also naming initiatives like an unlimited annual leave trial, individual wellness budgets, extra leave for recharging, flexible hours, and mental health first aid training as first-rate.
Nature was recognised for its achievements in delivering a Paid Parental Leave Policy, which entitles staff to 26 weeks of full-time paid leave for primary carers and two weeks for secondary carers.
It was also recognised for its learning development platform, Nurture, as well as industry-leading workplace flexibility and commitment to equality through its diversity and inclusion policies – all since becoming a certified B Corp in 2022.
In contrast to 2022's ranking, Equality Media + Marketing, Kaimera, M&C Saatchi, Nature, PHD, Rocket Agency and Reload Media are new to the list. Half Dome moved up one ranking. King Kong Agency moved up four rankings. Publicis moved down one.
The change has prompted 68 per cent less time spent in meetings, saved 490 working days across staff, and improved profit (50 per cent), retention (circa 100 per cent) and led to fitter employees.
Equality’s team topped Kaimera and Half Dome to win, and placed ahead of media and marketing firms M&C Saatchi, King Kong, Nature, Publicis Groupe, PHD Australia, Rocket Agency and Reload Media in the AFR BOSS Best Places to Work rankings.
